Lake Rotoiti Cruise

When: Friday 3rd May 2024: - Departing Cambridge i-site at 9.00am or pick up from a pre-arranged location before 9am.

About: Traveling to Rotorua today for a wonderful day excursion on Lake Rotoiti.  Please bring your lunch to enjoy on the boat.  Matt has refreshments on board that can be purchased. Our excursion is from 11am to 2pm.

​

At 11am we will meet up with Matt for our three hour private cruise of the lake while enjoying the activities. We will get the opportunity to have a paddle in the hot sand before continuing to some private native coves to take in some history and scenery. Let Matt delight you with some local knowledge along the way, or sit back and relax while soaking in the beauty of the area. 

Please bring something warm to wear, sun hat, sunglasses, sun protection and swim wear if you would like a swim at the hot sand beach. The weather can be changeable.

Before we head home we will visit O'Kere Falls.

Howick Historical Village

About: Today we will travel to Auckland to visit the Howick Historical Village. It is a living museum in Auckland. It is a recreation of a New Zealand colonial village using surviving buildings from the surrounding area. Despite its name, the Village is actually located in the suburb of Pakuranga.

Investment: $72.00 includes entry in to Village, driver and transport - lunch at your own cost

Train Journey Hamilton to Auckland

About: Traveling over to Rotokauri railway station to catch the train to Auckland. The Te Huia Departs Rotokauri station at 9.39am and takes us through to the strand. From there we will get transport to the viaduct for a walk and lunch.  We will return to the Strand for our return journey which departs the Strand at 3.20pm and arrives back in to Rotokauri at 5.39pm.

 

Don't forget your Bee Card to get the best fares! These can be purchased from the cafe onboard Te Huia.

 

Don't do this alone, come and enjoy a days outing within the safety of a small group. If you live in Hamilton and would like to join us please let me know your coming and we will meet you at Rotokauri railway station. Below are some bus options if you don't wish to drive.

For the best options for bus connections in Hamilton we suggest transferring at Rotokauri - there are limited transport options from Frankton Station.


From Rotokauri you could transfer to the Meteor (west to east), Orbiter (clockwise or anticlockwise) or 9 Nawton bus at the Rotokauri Transport Hub.

Across the platform bridge at The Base bus hub you can catch the Comet (north to south), 1 Pukete and 18 Te Rapa buses too.



Investment: $40 includes driver, transport to and from Rotokauri Railway station. Te Huia will be free if you bring your Bee Card and lunch at your own cost.

About:  Traveling towards Rotorua then on to Reparoa.

First we will visit Lady Knox Geyser which is presented daily at 10.15am then a walk through Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland.


After we have some lunch then we will head to Waikite Valley Hot Pools to enjoy a soak in their wonderful geothermal water

Train Journey Hamilton to Auckland

Exploring PioPio

About: Traveling to PioPio this morning to explore the surroundings. PioPio has the famous fat pigeon so we can always stop there to pick up some lunch.

​

Waitanguru Falls - A 15 minute return walk takes you down to a platform overlooking a stunning 15m tiered waterfall. The walk is well-signposted on the side of the road.

​

Omaru Falls -  A 30 minute walk one way over grassy farmland and rimu and fern-filled forest. The 1-hour return walk features a swing bridge and a picturesque picnic spot beside a smaller terraced waterfall.

​

A great opportunity to bring some lunch and enjoy on this unique day out. Please wear good walking shoes and a walking stick if required. A good standard of fitness is required.

Paeroa River Cruise

When: Friday 31st May 2024. Departing from the Cambridge i-site 9am

About: Today we  will head to Historical Paeroa Maritime Park. As our sailing isn't until 12.45pm we will have time to take a stroll down memory lane with the maritime history and displays of the region. Including Captain Cook, Northern Steam Ship Company and naval displays at the Historical Maritime Park Museum. This is a little gem, home to a very important collection of maritime history relating to the late 19th century when the goldfields of Waihi and Karangahake were being developed and mined.

​

Then we will have some lunch before boarding the Tamati. We will be stopping in Paeroa for you to purchase your lunch or you are welcome to bring your own lunch from home. 

​

River Cruise 12.45pm: Sit back and enjoy your paddleboat cruise on the Ohinemuri and Waihou rivers, aboard the Tamati. Trips are tide dependent and depart at a different time each day. The tides will be perfect for a 12.45 pm cruise.

It is believed that the name "high tea" probably evolved from the fact that this evening meal was served at proper dinner tables, rather than on couches or settees.

This delightful "High Tea" extravagance will be composed of sandwiches, scones with jam and thickened cream, sweet pastries, cakes and an arroy of various teas or coffees.

About: Traveling to Tauranga to visit a beautiful lady who has a Merino shop. We will enjoy a wander through her garden and then some refreshments.  Even in the winter you can find a garden peaceful to be in. There will be time to check out the latest stock of merino before we depart for the Mount.

​

Depending on the weather we will take a walk around the Mount or enjoy a walk along the beach. Lunch can be enjoyed looking out to sea or at a cafe along the front the choice is yours.

About: I've secured 5 shared rooms at the Devon from the 1st November and departing on the 6th November 2024. With the accommodation price increase and with us staying 5 nights the final cost has increased this year. If you require a room of your own then please let me know now so your not disappointed and there will be an extra cost.

 

Leaving Cambridge on Friday by 9am. I'll be in touch early October re pick up details

We will travel down to New Plymouth.  Along the way we will stop for refreshments and bathroom stops. Depending on the tide we will stop at the three sisters too.

Our accommodation is at the Devon Hotel for 5 nights. Arriving on the 1st November and departing on the 6th November.

​

With our meals we will either take our breakfast and have it in our room or there is a Restaurant at the Hotel so you are welcome to have breakfast there. We will have lunch out and in the evening we can either have a meal at the Devon or at another location.

​

I will get together with Jan and anyone else that is interested in putting a plan together of the gardens we visit once the new booklets come out.

Tiritiri Matangi Island & Kawau Island Cruise Tour

When: Wednesday 13th & Thursday 14th November 2025 - Departing Cambridge i-site at 9am or pick up from a pre-arranged location. More information will come out re pick up closer to the date.

About: We travel north to Orewa for two nights. We will be staying in the Waves Motel for both nights. As we travel to our final distination we will be stopping along the way for refreshments.

 

Thursday 14th November: Today we are booked to visit Tiritiri Matangi Island. It is one of New Zealand's oldest island sanctuaries, and is brimming with wildlife rarely seen on the mainland. We will catch the ferry from Gulf Harbour at 9.55am and arrive on the island at 10.20am. I have booked a guided walk so you don't miss the opportunity or knowledge about the birds and plants on the island. It is advisable to wear good walking shoes and bring a stick. The Wattle track is 1.5 hours one way but you don't need to rush. There are water troughs and sugar water feeding station along the way to spot the birdlife up close. The return ferry leaves the Island at 2.40pm and arrives at Gulf Harbour at 3.05pm.

We will head back to our accommodation to relax and then enjoy an evening meal together.

 

Friday 15th November: Today we will pack before heading north to catch the boat to Kawau Island for the Mail Run departing Sandspit at 10.30am. Enjoy the cruise of the beautiful bays and watch out for dolphins, gannets, penguins and other water activity. For lunch I have booked a traditional kiwi BBQ lunch. We will depart Mansion House at 2pm. Once we are back on the mainland we will all board the van for our journey home. 

​

Investment: $1,090.00 includes all transport, driver, 2 nights shared accommodation, ticket to Tiritiri Matangi Island with guided walk, ticket to Kawau Island on the mail run cruise with BBQ lunch. Not included All other meals

About: ​Flying Hamilton to Wellington return. I'll be at the Wellington airport to pick you all up. We will then head over the Rimutaka Ranges to Martinborough.

​

We will be staying at  95 Dublin Street, Corner Dublin & Regent Streets, Martinborough. 

​

There is a number of activities in this area and it will depend on the group as to what we will be doing.
​

Activities

1. Walk the Putangirua Pinnacles ( A lord of the rings filming location )

2. Rapaki Walk - You can start from Martinborough Village otherwise I can drop you at Te Muna Valley and will take you about 90 minutes to walk back.

3. Visit Cape Palliser, Ngawi (seal colony) & Lake Ferry

4. Visit some Wineries - you can hire bikes to do this

5. Visit Castlepoint

6. Take the train in to Wellington for the day.​

​

There are many attractions in this area. Stroll through the small towns Featherston, Greytown, Carterton or visit Masterton and enjoy Queen Elizabeth Park, McJorrow Park or Henley Lake Park which are all beside one another.​

​

Then on Friday 29th November you will pack and I will take you all through to Wellington for your flight home. 

​

South Island Tour - Christchurch - Mount Cook - Otematata - Timaru - Dunedin

When:  Thursday 5th December 2024 to Friday 13th December - 8 nights - 9 days

Thursday 5th December - You will fly to Christchurch where I will be there to meet you.

We will be staying 2 nights in Christchurch at Ramada Suites by Wyndham. 264 Tuam Street, Christchurch.

Friday 6th December - We will have half a day exploring Christchurch by tram.  After lunch we will visit the  Antarctic Centre. If there is something you wish to do or visit in Christchurch please let me know so I can add it to our itinerary.

Saturday 7th December - We will pack and head to Mount Cook. We will be staying 1 night in Mount Cook Village.  It is a 4 hour drive but many interesting places to see along the way.  Places we will stop is Geraldine, Lake Tekapo, The Church of the Good Shepherd and get some photos of the lupins that grow on the side of the lake. Once we are checked in you have a free afternoon to visit the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Museum & Theatre. They also have a 3D theatre at the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre.

Sunday 8th December - Today I will make a morning booking to experience New Zealand's Ultimate Ice Adventure with Glacier Explorer. Glacier Explorer tour which includes a 1.5km walk and a boat journey across the Tasman Lake where you'll get the opportunity to view the gorgeous ice face and even touch an iceberg. It is truly a one of a kind experience.  In the late afternoon we will travel to Otematata Lakeside Apartments for one night. It is a short drive of 1 & a half hours.

Monday 9th December - Today we will pack then head to the Clay cliffs, Benmore Dam, and follow the trail of Alps to Ocean. In the afternoon we will head towards Timaru as we will be staying two nights at Harbour View Motel.

Tuesday 10th December - Today we will be exploring Timaru. I have been told that there are many points of interest to see. These are just a few: Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden at Caroline Bay, Blue Penguin, Bashing Rocks walk, The Raptor Experience, Aigantighe Art Gallery - i-site do tours through rock drawings and Pleasant point with train ride and train museum which is 18km out of Timaru. 

Wednesday 11th December -  Today we pack and head to Dunedin for 2 nights. On our way you will be booked for a tour of Dots Castle Riverstone. I will be looking at a morning tour. In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to visit steampunk, Oamaru's Victorian precinct and the Public Gardens. Later in the afternoon we will head to Dunedin where we  have two houses at Westgate, Dunedin. They are just across the road from one another.

Thursday 12th December - This can be a free day to do something on your wish list which you have not done before. This is a list of things that may interest you. Larnach Castle, Toitu Otago Settlers Museum, Baldwin Street - the steepest street, Olveston Historic Home, Dunedin Railway, Chinese Garden, Tunnel Beach to name a few.

Friday 13th December - We will pack up and head to Dunedin for your flight home. The flight leaves from Dunedin to Hamilton at 10.45 am which transfers through Wellington and arriving in Hamilton at 1.45pm. I will have someone at the airport to pick you up and transfer you back home.
